Excuse me, Sir.

Why would anyone refuse to ask for directions when he is lost? Beats me. I get lost, i ask for directions. Correction: i ask for directions before i even attempt to look for the place. What a people leeching slug (but thats besides the point)

So not wanting to ask for directions has got to be an ego thing. Or a personal competition to see how clever one is.

I asked. 'A test of self-sufficiency', he replied.

Brother, no man's an island. You cant take over the world solo. You need a gigantum army and tons of kickass gunpowder (translation: feisty good friends). Everyone does. And you may hate to admit this, but you do, too.

Pinot Noir

When you're on house arrest on a Thursday afternoon due to a huge honking zit on your cheek and theres nothing good to watch on telly, not even astro re-runs, you frolic through bro's dvd collection, pick a provoking title and get comfortable.

My choice, Sideways.
Cast: Paul Giamatti, Thomas Haden Church, Virginia Madsen, and Sandra Oh

The storyline - two blokes headed for a road trip to celebrate the ill-fate of one-half of the duo. Marriage. A last chance at freedom and sex. Jack, the out there smooth talker who gets the women. Miles, the refined subdued pinot-noir loving divorcee stuck in his own shell.

The movie speaks of real themes. Friendship. Wine. Lies. Forgiveness. And an excellent script.

There was one part which struck me. When the sweet Maya asked Miles of his love with pinot noir and pinot noir alone.

Uh, I don't know, I don't know. Um, it's a hard grape to grow, as you know. Right? It's uh, it's thin-skinned, temperamental, ripens early. It's, you know, it's not a survivor like Cabernet, which can just grow anywhere and uh, thrive even when it's neglected. No, Pinot needs constant care and attention. You know? And in fact it can only grow in these really specific, little, tucked away corners of the world. And, and only the most patient and nurturing of growers can do it, really. Only somebody who really takes the time to understand Pinot's potential can then coax it into its fullest expression. Then, I mean, oh its flavors, they're just the most haunting and brilliant and thrilling and subtle and... ancient on the planet.

It really, was an expression of who Miles gathered himself to be. His role and presence in the world, his silent potential, silent beauty. that only those privileged few could see, understand and enjoy it.

His speech on pinot noir triggered what a friend had once said.

'The world is divided into the Observers and The Observed'.

Miles falling into the former.

I dont know. i thought his description of Pinot Noir was beautiful. But, to be brutally honest, reflected into the world of human relationships, its bull. Its repression. Miles was, repressed, and was justifying it.

How quaint.

The week came. The week went. So much happened, and none had to do with CLP.

I grazed shoulders (and waists) with the ever uber hot, ever grinning Bernard Chandran at the Msian International Fashion Week. Chandran's labelled the 'Prince of Fashion' of Malaysia, and who could deny him that title, with that striking Chindian goodlooks? And they had the good sense to plaster his face as ambassador of i-Zen apartments, smack at the junction of zooming vehicles in Sri Hartamas, in the center of the buzz of many a female drivers..

Strictly a non-sucker for photographic tendencies with famous faces, lo and behold, reason completely overtook me when i saw Chandran in the flesh. I could not resist when it came to this work passionate, well-suited joe.

And then there was that long put off trip to Amcorp Mall's flea market. My friend J visits this particular lady with leather bags and J always rocks up to class with the loveliest brown ones from the market. This time the leather bag lady had no leather bags for me. Darn.

Since we were already there, we spent some time peering at other goods, but they were erring slightly on the dangy and old side. Afterall, it was an antique and exotic collectors item flea market. Most were second-hand goods of antique jewellery, rock rings, collectors Coke cans and comics. One thing that stood out to me was the hugee record collections. Impressive. True appreciaters of good jazzy oldie music on the ever reliable vinyl record should take a look. The market runs on Sat and Suns from 10am-6pm.

The market is not a place i would visit again, but it definitely was a refreshing and interesting change from browsing the regular haunts of Mango or Zara. A couple of hours later, we rocked home with a small loot - a Billy Joel CD for RM15 and Wally Lamb's 'i know this much is true', for RM8 . a bargain!

My favourite n constant amuser, returns
On another light note, A's back in KL for good. I dont believe it! After one whole year of not seeing each other, we did catching up over pork ball noodles in OUG, which A had been raving about. Whilst stuffing our faces, amidst reminiscing over the antics in Melbourne and the last time we saw each other (right before bidding farewell at the airport), my tummy started to rumble somewhat. I had little inkling of what was to entail that night - a full blown diarhorrea affair. It sure is good to have him back again... pun intended.

Lesson(s) of the day:

  1. friends which fit like old jumpers are gems themselves and those who adored you even when you looked less decent, well, priceless.
  2. Delicious food always comes at a price. Mummy was right.

KL fashionweek

KL Fashionweek. I love all things beautiful, fashion is no exception.
With couture, life is never prettier.
So, Tuesday saw me, G and J headed to Times Square for the Zang Toi runway show.

I remember strolling into the Zang Toi shop in Sungei Wang say 3 years ago, and walking out not too impressed.
This time, the runway show enthralled me with the atmosphere, the stage, the struts. But still, the collection left me short of awe. I guess the whole batik/kebaya touch + brown velvet theme did not agree with my taste

Yet, looking at ZangToi's runway shows and New York collections bewilder me. They are nothing like his collections found in Malaysia. I have to say, kudos to his NY designs, they possess the krunch. Just take a look:

A show i would have loved to attend (but did not): Melinda Looi haute couture . Couture basically means high fashion, fashion with a twist of theatre. Not the run of the mill day to day wear. Gorgeous

Melinda Looi couture

Another solid guy is Kenneth Vernon

Its definitely good to see KL stepping up to the plate in terms of runway shows. Im just glad we even have it. More couture and Chloe Gucci-like designers please

Blogabondquiz

a friend said this:

a measure of how close you are with someone is how much u rely on their blogs to keep up with what they are doing (hereinafter "The Theory")

after a little thought and a little debate and much real life comparing and contrasting, i finally agreed with him.

One. You do use the blog to poke your nose into what certain people-u-know-but-dont-really-meet-up-with-often are up to, and then post random comments.

Two. Lost Friend implies to you how you have lost each other by this- you one day opening the blog and discovering something u didnt know. and then again. and more (and up to today, mind you) because youve just stopped talking like that. like how u once did.

Three. I reflect how Close Friend's blog is but 1/10th a description of what i know really went on or goes on in her head. and i can decode all her written hidden metaphors. AND it was yesterday's news, sista.

Conclusion: The balances appear to be tipped in favour of The Theory.

mules

Answer to the previous post:

The glass is not perfectly unbroken especially when it comes to egoistic mules, but perhaps in another chapter, another phase, the glass will be sealed back to perfection. Till then.

Have a good one there, my friend. WP was a good one 'cause of you!

wax and wane

There is that certain amount of comfort you feel with someone you share a bond with. That very comfort and ease which makes you think it gives u all the right in the world to spill your stress and frustrations unto him, and pull the mat right off his cherry eyed tinted glasses of you. And all the whilst, thinking that the pure solidity of your friendship would outdo the evils you inflict.

When, though, is the limit. When will the sacrecy of a bond wax and wane? When will he turn his back on you and walk away? When will hearts afalter and fetter off from our hands, as hard as we grasp?

The question is, once the glass has broken, will it, and can it, be unbroken?

Closer

People say that absence makes the heart fonder. In some cases it falls true, yet most of the time, the phrase fails to capture the streak of reality which clouds most bonds or relationships. They forget, that two individuals not within reach, sometimes fail to retune themselves into the coccoon which their world once revolved around..

Yet.. everytime the petals of pettiness and red fumes of temper flare, when the fragile bud of harmony appears to wax and wane, the sun creeps and peeks through, and she remmebers with stark clarity the soft words of a strong man, the unconditional bearings he brings, and the vast ambitions they only dare dream of together. Most of all, she remembers the idle afternoons, the warm winter nights and the easy amusement and adoration he casts. And she smiles again. Because there they stand still as time unwinds and she realises, no one even comes close.

da vinci in da hood

Joanne brought to my attention this column which appeared in NST Malaysia last Thurs.

Linguists call for 'Da Vinci Code' ban

THE Malaysian Linguistic Association (Malas) has echoed calls by other parties to ban the controversial movie The Da Vinci Code.

The film is an adaptation of a best-selling novel that deals with some aspects of the Christian faith. But the objection by Malas has nothing to do with theology because "we don't even know who Theo is", says its president Mr X.

The association's chief objection is, instead, linguistic.

"For too long we have sat by and allowed language to be polluted but we have decided that enough's enough. The Da Vinci Code should be banned because we don't want to encourage youngsters to use 'da' as a lazy shorthand for 'the'

"We see this in rap lyrics," he claims.

"All this talk about 'hanging out with da hoes'. You should be hanging out with THE hoes. This sort of begs the question of why someone would want to 'hang out' with gardening implements to begin with, but I am not here to question lifestyle choices, merely spelling, grammar and semantics."

He said the association might reconsider its protests if the filmmakers changed its name to The The Vinci Code.

"But even this is problematic because having two 'thes' in a row look ugly. So the film should be called The Vinci Code."

The film's producers could not be reached for comment.

Perplexing? Unbelievable? Your call.

Book-Geek

The geek in me has resurfaced. Im currently left distracted by..

.. which is supposedly gonna reveal to me the deep dark lurky secrets of the great Mr Trump himself. but really, so far its only shown me just how much the guy swears.

And then there's the second one, thanks to Joanne's very very keen obsession with the inter-changeability of the Illuminati ambigram...

3 month self-rediscovery

Looking back on the date of my last post, i realise my blogging halted not at some random time of the month, but at the very beginning of my working days at ZR. Awesome. If that isnt proof of how busy work's been, i dont know what is!

Michelle insists that it is D's and my DUTY to keep our blogs rolling, so im gonna indulge you, Mich.

Today's one of those few nights where i manage to plant my arse home by 7.45pm. Usually it's upstairs with the working lot for drinks, or dinn, or shipping escapades, or plain just being tied up by ambush work. Ah what a relaxing night it is, with the IN tray cleared, errands run and plain just waiting for my hunk (so he claims), to call.

On a completely random note, love is in the air. Got great news yesterday from C who's potentially gonna have the fullest experience of her life! Way to go. All that's left is me hoping that the lurvee fairie finds a way to grant you your heart's desire. You squirrel!

ken, youve got to stop sending those good quotes so that i can restrain myself from posting em up to share it around!

Love is the thing that enables a woman to sing while she mops up the floor after her husband has walked across it in his barn boots.

the.wrinkles.of.time
im no sucker for romantic goo. It's a pure coincidence that yesterday was vday, but a friend sent me this quote and i think it's beautiful:

The man or woman you really love will never grow old to you. Through the wrinkles of time, through the bowed frame of years, you will always see the dear face and feel the warm heart union of your love.

The.cut

It started off with Donald Trump in the Apprentice. Then came Richard Branson with his reality show to select yet another disciple, this time for the Virgin empire (note however, there was no Second season). Now, even the fashion world has taken cue and begun its own top dog reality tv --> The Cut with Tommy Hilfiger as Guru slash judge! *unreal*.

Today had me watching an episode of The Cut, and really, it's all quite pretentious and irrelevant. If you ask me, Trump holds the trump card. Those who followed suit in his footsteps of celebrity reality tv somehow lost their pebbles, and failed to hit the jackpot, none coming close. Only Trump survives, still managing to capture audiences (aka me) in its Fourth season.

We'll wait and see just how long The Cut survives eh.

bedroom.woes

Ikea is unbelievable! I bought the Aneboda bed a couple of days ago. While assembling it, my bro and I realised the pack contained one wrong piece. Instead of being mirror pieces, two pieces were identical, which is, really, no good at all. I was peeved.

So. You can imagine my increased 'peeve-ness' (pardon they bad vocab) when i open the replacement pieces, only to realise, with shock horror, that they gave us the wrong piece, AGAIN. At this point, i just wanted to 'go to the wall' (read: faint)

I would definitely say that the free installation they threw in in the end was well justified. And also, since im such a sucker for good-looking deco and furniture, i guess i'll still be one loyal Ikea customer - who occasionally complains *thumbs up*!

prologue.to.Elgin.St

Never ever have i ever been so close to tears somewhat all the time
Never ever have i been as emo as i have been during the past few months (kill me)
Never ever will i relive the days in Melbourne.

Melbourne was home, for four wholesome years. In hindsight, i have spent almost all my growing years there, evolving as a person, acquiring the taste i have today of men, clothes and food. Guiding me to law and direction in life. In retrospect, I marvel (and fail to imagine) how I would be today, if i had not spent those years in Melbourne. I would not have met all the wonderful people i have met along the way.

This is it. Melbourne, reduced to bits and pieces of an array of memories. All the things i never did before, and probably never will again.
Changing lanes to Law - best decision i ever made for myself
meeting the love of my life
blissful trips to Sydney which were always too short for liking
coping with the realisation that i am no longer top dog
shivering in the cold and erratic Melbourne wind
walking barefoot back from Crown
heart to heart talks with A, the only other person awake at 6
learning to cook something other than maggi
finally being able to be punctual, neat, and organised
no longer wishing my hair to be straight
loving the waves in my hair God gave me *see above
Shanghai! oh shanghai.
seeing aliciakeys, nickelback, hoobastank, sarah m, switchfoot and foofighters live
working in a cafe, wearing black and an apron
earning my first dollar *see point above
getting my first Bettinas with my hard earned pay
learning to make coffee the right way
a car accident which still haunts me each time i drive on the Hway.
crying at airports the most i have ever cried
smoking pot and disliking it
Making friends i never thought i would grow to love half as much

Things i will miss..
Strolling in great weather with my ipod blasting in my ears
Talking over nothing with my babes
snowboarding
being able to wear boots and dress fashionably
being independent and free
breakfast and freshly squeezed orange juice at Trotters
car washing in the middle of the night @ Spencer St
midnight McDonalds and frozen coke
coffee chit chats
the friends which were a mere phonecall, walk or minute drive away

What a year it's been, all we've seen, all our hopes and dreams Im looking forward to what new doors open and life's offers from hereon!!

the beginning of the end is the beginning

Was hit by a wave of sadness looking back on days when everything was simple and untainted by real life complexities. The better days when dark thoughts were far off, decisions-to-be a mere speck away in the distance, when feelings flowed freely, unrestrained by practicality.

Yet, here i am, taking off my rose tinted glasses and facing life in the face. Waking up one day and realising that things arent how they were, 24 hours ago, 24 minutes ago, or 24 seconds ago. Perhaps for the better, perhaps not. Its like an eternal metamorphosis. Like how you watch a puppy grow into a dog. You want the perfectly chubby cuteness of him to stay that way forever, but time only evolves him into a full grown dog. And theres nothing u can bloody do about it.

Life is not what I thought it was
Twenty four hours ago

Still I'm singing Spirit take me up in arms with You
And I'm not who I thought I was twenty four hours ago

- 24 by Switchfoot-

What does one do? To make it and protect yourself in the brash world, there is nothing else to be done, but rise up, wise up, cut ties from attachments and do the practical. Shall i go? This time, it would not be for the wrong reasons.

Ive lived life putting my best-est emotions in things i do. Perhaps its time to wisen up and count my pebbles before i throw them.
